    Fantastic article! Social media as a tool for branding and advertising positively can’t be ignored today. It’s cost-effective and the reach to your audience is incomparable to what it was just 10 years ago. This makes it especially attractive for start-ups who receive a greater reach for less money.

    I’d just like to add one additional point, which while it could go along with “Connect with Your Audience,” might better be suited to its own reason number — customer retention. By using social media, you build a brand and steadily increase your connections with customers. It’s important to keep up with that base by offering promotions, sharing information, and looking to them for feedback. When customers feel like their opinions are valued and actually being heard, they want to stick around. Add into that even more benefits by following that business (i.e. discounts for sharing a post, etc.), and they will want to stay with that brand. This will then lead to the word-of-mouth (or rather Facebook/Twitter) referral and things will grow from there.

    I thought it was a point worth mentioning.
